Description
We took the cable-car up the mountain to about 2400m from Fuente de Parador and did the same walk I did with Paddy and trekking team a decade before, up into the strange lunar landscape of the limestone Picos. Last time the weather had been outrageous with icy winds that made me realise how unprepared I had been, this time it was windy, not as cold, but with the most amazing jet-stream cloud formations overhead. After a hearty breakfast watching Alpine Choughs we headed up towards the 2600m peak and turned right exactly where we had last time to shelter under a rock outcrop on the steep scree from the piercing wind. This was the sketch in extreme conditions. Mandy a bit worried about our predicament but we made it back to the cable car and we didnt need to find refuge in the chalet cafe last time where I was introduced to the exceptionally reviving qualities of Pacharan! Fond memories set both times.
