Description
Just below the sculpture of the bear we found this fantastic view looking East across the Picos with the sun coming up beyond. Picos de Europa is an amazing mountain range rising to 2650m above sea level with the most dramatic bleached limestone peaks and pinnacles. We were at about 1600m but it was already hot (34 degrees) and we were surrounded by gentle cattle with bells ringing as they munched the grass almost between our feet. It was an idyllic scene. Beautiful rugged mountains that were home to the tough Celtic Cantabri who repelled the Romans. Now home to wolves and bears and other wild creatures. A bit further North from the Dehesa but on our way home and a great place to spend a few days.
