Description
This is the view from the little village, Villarreal de San Carlos in the middle of Monfrague National Park looking East across the park on one rainy afternoon. You can see a sliver of the dam that snakes through the park and the wonderful staccato silhouette of Cork Oak trees lining the hill tops.. great habitat for Bonelli’s Eagles and Black Vultures which can be seen clearly from the roads. This little national park in Spain is the closest equivalent in Europe to a game reserve experience in Africa. Lots of Red Deer everywhere. Hunting has been permitted in parts of the park which is why they know Iberian Lynx occur here because one was treed by dogs recently. There has been a public outcry to stop hunting in the park. |
